Former President Goodluck Jonathan gives 2016 Merit Awards Keynote Speech at Nigeria Lawyers Association (NLA)

Each year, the NLA hosts the Merit Awards Dinner to celebrate the achievements of distinguished individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the legal profession and towards the advancement of public and community service, and to give out scholarships to law students of color from across the country, based on need and merit.
This year’s NLA Merit Awards Dinner will be held on October 29, 2016, at the 630 Second Ballroom, located at 630 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10016.

This year’s Awards Dinner is billed to be incredibly special as the NLA will have the privilege of hosting former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR, BNER, GCON, who will be serving as our keynote speaker this year.


President Jonathan will be joining a long list of Nigerian dignitaries who have graced the NLA Merit Awards, including  Professor Wole Soyinka, a 1986 Noble Laureate in Literature, and world-renowned writer, poet and playwright; Professor Chinua Achebe, world-renowned writer and author of the award winning novel, “Things Fall Apart”; and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former World Bank Managing Director and former Nigerian Minister of Finance.


The NLA would like to give a special thanks to this year’s Dinner Committee – Abayomi Ajaiyeoba, Chisom Ananaba,
Lydia Obasi Hills, and Stephanie Ijoma – for their remarkable efforts in planning this year’s dinner.  We applaud their efforts and trust that this year’s dinner will be a resounding success. We hope to see you there!
